In a press release dated January 15, 2025, the FSSAI confirmed that all amendments to India’s food safety regulatory framework will take effect from this fixed date each year.
On July 6, 2024, the FSSAI approved a proposal mandating the display of nutritional information—specifically total sugar, salt, and saturated fat—in bold and larger font sizes on packaged food labels. These labeling regulations apply uniformly to both imported and domestically produced food products in India.

- Front-of-pack labeling (FOPL): Critical nutritional values, such as high fat, sugar, or salt content, must be displayed prominently on the front of the package.
- Restaurant and online display standards: Calorific information is mandatory for menus in restaurants meeting specific turnover thresholds and online food platforms.
- Allergen information: Common allergens must be clearly declared.
- Category-specific provisions: Guidelines cover alcoholic beverages, fortified foods, organic foods, and proprietary foods are specified separately.
