Government Services to Go Online by October
Jun. 30 – India plans to make all government services available online in 10 states by October eventually followed by 18 more states as part of its State Portal Project.
The services will include payment of utility bills, application for a driving license, birth and death registration certificates, pension applications and residence certificates to name a few.
“We expect many states to go live within six months. It will reduce redtapism and make delivery of services hassle free,” according to a statement made by a joint secretary level official at the Ministry of IT & Communications.
“Citizen service center (CSC) kiosks, in rural areas, will help citizens who are technologically challenged submit these forms online,” the official added. India aims to set up an additional 10,000 CSC kiosks by December.
The online portals will make it easier for anyone to log in to check the status of their application. Queries will be answered through SMS, email or on the web site. Services may be limited during the initial stages of the site.
