Indian Winemaker sought by Asahi Breweries
Indage Vintners India’s largest winemakers and home of the surprisingly good Chateau Indage range, is being sought by Japans Asahi Breweries in a potential US$150 million takeover. Asahi has been looking at acquisitions in the India market for some time and already has a distribution agreement for its imported beers with Indage’s main competitors, Sula Vineyards.
Mahindra & Mahindra a Possibility for Saturn
GM’s Saturn brand has been doing the rounds looking for a buyer, with Mahindra and Mahindra being touted as the more suitable home given Tatas existing tie up with Land Rover and Jaguar, and a need to compete with Tata for acquisition of U.S. auto technology. With Chinese companies already looking to compete with the recent takeover of the UK’s Rover assets by Nanjing Auto, and the potential sale of Hummer to Sichuan Tengzhong, Mahindra and Mahindra may just fit the bill as the next major Asian auto company to make such a deal.
Indian Mozart in Hollywood
The renowned Bollywood music director and composer Dr. A. R Rehman is all set to compose music for romantic comedy Couples Retreat directed by Peter Billingsley. Forty-three year old Rehman, one of the India’s best-known composers, created wrote the Oscar winning music and original song for the movie Slum Dog Millionaire. Couples Retreat is expected to be will be released at the end of this year. Couples Retreat is a production of Universal Studios and is a story of four Midwestern couples who embark on a holiday to a tropical island resort.
